Referenced in Tobit 1:22; 2:10; 11:18; 14:10. Verse 22 refers to Tobit's faithfulness in exile, where he secretly buried Israelites killed by Sennacherib, leading to him being hunted by the king and fleeing, losing his property but not his wife Anna and son Tobias.

  • After a period, Ahiqar, Tobit's nephew, intercedes for him, allowing Tobit to return to Nineveh.

  • Later in chapter 2 verse 10 the specific event where Tobit becomes blind from bird droppings while resting after his burial duties, a trial orchestrated by God.

  • He seeks help from physicians, but they are ineffective, and his relative Ahiqar supports him.
