Samaritan Tradition

Joshua builds his 1st altar in northern Israel. Variation occurs between northern and southern text variants: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. Look up the quote "the habiru are now attempting to take jerusalem" as a possible reference to the Hebrews taking over the western side of land of Canaan, as stated on the Amarna Tablets within this time period. The Samaritan peoples used to live from south Turkey, Cyprus, and north Palestine with at least 1,000,000 representatives, and today there are less than 1,000. Among the many differences, one noted biblical reason is: Samaritans attribute their schism with the Jews to Eli, who was the penultimate Israelite shophet and a priest in Shiloh in 1 Samuel 1; in Samaritan belief, he is accused of establishing a worship site in Shiloh with himself as High Priest in opposition to the one on Mount Gerizim.
