Melito of Sardis

Sardis no longer exists but the area is near Salihli in the Manisa province of Turkiye. Sardis was the capital of the Lydian kingdom and was the first city where coins were minted. It later became an important city under the Roman Empire. Possibly Bishop Melito lived among a highly populated Jewish community, and therefore he tries to distinguish Johannine Christianity from the non-Christian Judaism (Tannaim teachers). Page 72 in the link states, "These are their names. There are five books of Moses:
Genesis Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus, Deuteronomy.
Joshua the son of Nave, Judges, Ruth, four books of Kingdoms, two books of Omissions, the Psalms of
David, the Proverbs and the Wisdom of Solomon, Ecclesiastes, the Song of Songs, Job, and among the prophets
Isaiah and Jeremiah. There are twelve prophets in one
book, and Daniel, Ezekiel and Esdras. From these I have made my extracts, which are divided into six books."
